India Town Powered By Poop

Quite interesting to have another story devoted towards….poop. Not too long ago we talked about a cozy concrete bench powered by warm sewage. Now, the latest most smelly story, involves a town in India called Thiruneermalai to power their street lights by poo.
The authorities in the town are using human waste to collect in a sump. Methane gas produced from the “sludge” is used to operate the generator. Daily, the biogas produce 3,000 watts of daily electricity which is enough to power the lights during the night.

Check Out The World’s Biggest Solar Kitchen

The world’s biggest solar kitchen in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India runs entirely on huge solar reflectors. In joint efforts of Brahma Kumaris India and Solare-Bruecke, Germany, steam from solar reflectors were created to cook vegetables and rice for up to 18,000 people.
Steam is produced and collected by seizing the heat from the sun, which can reach temperatures of 650 degrees C at the reflector’s focal point. The steam fuels gigantic industrial pots of 200 and 400 litres where the food is cooked.
At 1,300 meters above sea level, the system is setup at the Academy for a Better World and can produce up to 38,500 meals per day when the sun is at full glow.
