I was able to visit Southfork Hotel and Southfork Ranch. It was a very pleasant stay. And the best part is that Southfork is committed to helping lessen their impact on the environment. Here are some ways that they are doing it.
Housekeeping stopped using bleach and now uses non-toxic cleaners. Which is better for you during your stay, better for the staff using the cleaners, and better for the environment.
When you go to the room you will also see a note letting you know they recycle so to just leave any of your recyclables on the table and they will take care of them for you. Which makes it easy for everyone to recycle while away from home!
Other changes include redoing the lighting to more efficient lighting, selling the kitchen grease to buyers that make biodiesel, buying in bulk in the kitchen, using recycled paper products, using paper products in place of Styrofoam for things like take out containers, timers on lights, and so much more.
They even have “greened” the office by using recycled products, recycling, double sided printing as well as the many changes you see all around the hotel.
Behind the scenes they are committed to teaching the staff to help them learn how to be “green” while working at the hotel. There are signs by trash cans reminding people to recycle, timers on the freezers to make sure they don’t stay open to long, they are told to only run the dishwasher when it’s as full as possible and other things like that.
If you are a fan of Dallas you will want to be sure to check out Southfork Ranch. Where they are also making many environmental changes.
If you aren’t near Plano, Texas’s Southfork is a Forever Resorts hotel and Forever Resorts has hotels all over. So be sure to check out their website for more information about how they are helping the environment and if there is a hotel near you.
