A fast-growing, red flowered and poisonous weed has a curious secret held within their seeds. The Jatropha plant which has been used as a remedy for constipation, has hopes to power your car replacing biofuels like ethanol and offers greater overall environmental benefits.
Biofuels like ethanol requires large amounts of water, fertilizer and energy versus the Jatropha weed which requires no pesticides, very little water (they are resistant to drought) maintenance and no fertilizer.
The plant produces seeds with up to 40 percent oil content which could be crushed and burned in a diesel car. The residue can be processed into biomass for power plants.
