BP’s Money Is No Greener Than Their Oil

While some are busy reporting that BP money is helping restore the Gulf of Mexico that was so recently devastated by BP oil, still other agencies are reporting that BP is in fact sending money to support U.S. politicians who are against environmental protection bills, politicians who continue to deny that global warming even exists. BP is not the only foreign company currently providing financial support to U.S. politicians, but perhaps the only one whose company had such a huge and harmful direct impact on the U.S. environment this year.

According to one report: “The European companies are funding almost exclusively Senate candidates who have been outspoken in their opposition to comprehensive climate policy in the US and candidates who actively deny the scientific consensus that climate change is happening and is caused by people.” President Obama himself has alluded to this big oil strategy in a recent speech quoted by the Guardian, stating: “Oil companies and the other special interests are spending millions on a campaign to gut clean-air standards and clean-energy standards.”
