Hewlett-Packard announced that it will be installing a 1-megawatt solar array on its San Diego facility. Five thousand panels will be installed on seven buildings, making it a large solar installation but still smaller than Google’s 1.6 megawatt solar array.
HP is using SunPower to install the solar panel and sell the electricity generated. The installation is expected to save HP $750,000 over 15 years and potentially offset 1 million pounds of CO2 annually.
The company is taking it one step further by encourage HP employees to purchase solar electric panels from Sun Power which would earn employees a $2,000 rebate from Sun Power, which HP will match.
