The Air Car Is Coming to the U.S.

The revolutionary Air Car is planning to come to the United States sometime in 2009 or 2010. Zero Pollution Motors developed an ingenious engine that pushes six pistons by compressed air rather than gasoline combustion. Developed by the Formula 1 race car engineer Guy Negre, this car carries a compressor making it possible to fill the air tank by plugging it into an electrical outlet.

At low speeds, the engine is cranked solely by air from the tank and at high speeds gasoline is used to heat a chamber to give the air pushing the pistons more pressure. At high speeds, it also compresses air to inject into the cylinders. According to Zero Pollution Motors specifications, the Air Car is claimed to go 848 miles on an 8 gallon tank of gas, reaching a top speed of 96 mph. The body of the car is made from fiberglass, foam and is big enough for fit a six people.

Initially the Air Car was developed for the Indian market, in which it received funding from the Indian car maker Tata Motors. Now it’s expected to come to the United States. It’ll be great to see how it will do in the U.S. market in the very near future.
