Dinnerware Made From Pressed Palm Leaves

Just in time for summer picnics … a company named Verterra from the Latin phrase Veritas Terra meaning “true to the earth,” has created a line of 100% natural and biodegradable dinnerware. The line consists of a variety of plates, bowls, cups and platters which are microwave, oven and freezer safe. They are made from the leaves of organically-grown palm trees in South Asia. Usually these leaves would be burned on the roadside. Once collected the leaves are “sterilized, steamed and pressed into plates.” There are no chemicals, glues or bonding agents used in the process. Eighty percent of the water that is used in the process is recaptured and recycled. Because the dinnerware is made of completely natural materials (leaves and water) they are“100% renewable and compostable” in fewer than 2 months. The Verterra manufacturing facility is a fair trade facility. This means that the “employees receive fair wages in safe working conditions and are provided access to healthcare.” Check out their site.
