Toyota, the world’s leading seller of hybrid cars, has announced their renewed attempt to win the world’s most challenging car race - this time using a hybrid car. Making its showcase in the 2010 Le Mans 24-hour race, Toyota’s unconventional hybrid race car has been compared to a Prius on steroids. The exact specifications of the racer has not been publicized, but Toyota has stated that the car will be fitted with special capacitors and batteries to facilitate an extremely fast power supply and charging function. Of course, their team of engineers are met with some challenges, one of the biggest requiring them to build a racing hybrid that isn’t heavy in weight and has an improved “transmission efficiency”.
By being involved in the popular race, Toyota hopes to promote its hybrid technology in Europe since its market presence isn’t as large as in Japan and the United States.
