Aimed at controlling and eliminating overflowing trash cans in public areas, Big Belly has created a solar-powered waste container that compacts trash on the spot. The containers hold up to five times as much garbage versus the typical public non-compacting waste container. It reduces the frequency of emptying the container by as much as 4 times or more, saving on fuel costs for truck pickup and they don’t need to be plugged in to compact, they are solar powered! The machine is safe to use by inhibiting hands from reaching into the compaction area and it can be locked.
It would be great to see much more of these containers in our cities. They have gotten a good start so far. Check out their website to see them in Action on Discovery Science Channel and see which cities they are currently being distributed.
