Created by Laura Pandelle, the solar food heater concept is designed to use spray-on solar cells.
The base contains an induction heating device to heat food by creating an electromagnetic field between the coil and metal container - making an almost instantaneous heat transfer.
Using spray on solar cells under development at the University of Toronto, the cells would be sensitive enough to even produce energy on a cloudy day. The technology would allow any surface to be converted into a solar cell. It’s hoped that it will be available within seven years.
