Coming to a Recycling Center Near You!

recycleI’ve noticed a lot more people recycling, I must say. It used to be that no one was ever at the recycling center, the bins were nearly empty and no one who did recycle seemed to bother with separating anything. Lately, though, there is almost always someone else there when I arrive, and someone else will show up before I go. The time of day doesn’t seem to matter. The bins are often nearly full and, while not as tidy as my OCD would like, still, they show signs that more people are being careful about putting items in their proper places.

I am sure it is at least my own prejudice, but from watching anti-environmental media, one would expect that a certain type of person would be less likely to recycle than others. Namely, the fabled “rich old white guy” is the last person I would expect to see saving his plastic bottles for reuse, Ed Begley notwithstanding. Based on my experience at the local small town recycling center, however, the rich old white guy is one of the most likely people to be recycling! This came as rather a pleasant surprise, I must say. Gives me hope for the universe…or at least the planet.
