This October, WaterAid Australia is running a worldwide initiative called the Walk4Water to encourage people to experience the 10,000 steps required to fetch water - a burden which is endured by millions of people living in developing nations - every day.
Through the Walk 4 Water, we’re giving you a chance to experience the burden endured by over 850 million people who walk over 10,000 steps every day to collect their daily water - and more importantly, we’re giving you the opportunity to help us change this.
- Assist WaterAid by raising much needed funds for programs providing safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education in the world’s poorest countries.
- Work on your own wellbeing by walking the daily steps recommended by health experts.
- Help us look after our beautiful planet and reduce carbon emissions - over 2kg for every 10,000 steps.
- Log your steps with the special Walk4Water calculator and compare your progress to other WaterAid supporters all over Australia - and the world!
Imagine life without water flowing freely from a tap. Imagine waking up at dawn and spending up to six hours fetching water for your family’s needs. 1 in 8 people worldwide do not have to imagine this life. It is their reality.
WaterAid Chief Executive Adam Laidlaw explains, “Here in Australia we are fortunate to enjoy access to safe, clean water. WaterAid works with thousands of people every day who not only walk for hours to collect their water but who are forced to live without access to the most basic sanitation and hygiene education.
