Got2BeGreen - Show Your Independence Deadline is August 31st (Not as many goodies as Treehugger, but they’re a lot older and bigger than Got2BeGreen!)

A couple of days ago, Business 2.0 reported that the world’s first carbon-free city is in the plans to being built. Smack in the middle of the oil-rich Middle East, the city Masdar will cut its electricity bill by harnessing renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and geothermal energy. They’re also planning to make a total ban on cars within the city.

Construction beings in January 2008 with an expected completion date of 2009. If built with success, the zero-carbon city will be a model for the rest of the world and will have a huge economic impact.
